Hallstatt is a cute little village in northwestern Austria. Alpine houses climb the salt mountain of this UNESCO World Heritage site.
A word of advice though, do not go on Monday or Tuesday as many of the offices are closed then, especially during the winter.

The ferry in the water shuttles passengers from the town to the Hallstatt train station. The large church at the bottom is the Lutheran Church. The orange building faces the nativity scene on the marketplace.

The cemetery of the Catholic Church
The Beinhaus (i.e. the Bone House) is located in the Catholic Church cemetery. Plots of land in the cemetery are rented for a specific period of time. If no one repurchases the land, it is resold and the remains are dug up. The head is preserved, painted and collected in this Bone House.
The swans are not native to Hallstatt. They were brought by Empress Sisi when she and her husband started visiting the country more regularly.
